Change the number of irregular nouns

                                                                Information for Teacher

Irregular Nouns that don't follow the rules.
Most nouns can be made plural by adding 'an' or'en'
There are some nouns that form the plural differently, some nouns change their vowels in the middle of the singular form, when forming the plural.

Example:

  Goose/geese,    foot/feet,    man/men, etc.
Several nouns form the plural by adding the letters –en  or –ren.
Example:   ox/oxen,   child/children, etc.
·         There are a number of animals that have the same singular and plural form.
Example: deer/deer, sheep/sheep, fish/fish, etc.
·         A scavenger hunt is a game in which the organizer prepares a list of specific items. The participants of the game try to find all the items on the list. The team or individual who completes the list first, wins

        Material / Resources

Papers with items listed for the scavenger hunt, colored paper stars work sheet, chalks/markers, board, textbook, (if photocopy facility is not available, write the sentences on the board).

Worm Up Activity

·         Begin the lesson by announcing that the whole class is going on a scavenger hunt. Explain to the students;          What a scavenger hunt is?
·         Divide the class into small groups Give each group the paper with things to be found such as books, pens, pencils, erasers, scales, shoes, etc.
·         Prepare this list before starting the lesson.
·         Tell the groups that they also have to write, on the given paper, the singular or plural of those things. Give the groups 5 minutes for the hunt.
·         The group which gathers all the things and writes the singular or plurals first, wins.
·         After the game finishes, tell the students that there are some nouns which make plural differently from all the nouns learnt so far. Tell the class that they will learn those nouns today.
