LESSON PLAN OF ADDITION AND SUBTRACT UNITS OF TIME WITH CARRYING/BORROWING

Image
LESSON PLANNING OF ADDITION AND SUBTRACT UNITS OF TIME WITH CARRYING/BORROWING Subject Mathematics Grad 5 th Students` Learning Out coming Add and subtract units of time with carrying/borrowing. Information for Teachers For addition of time: The same units are added i.e. o    Hours can be added   to hours; 3:hours + 9 hours o    Minutes can be added to minutes; e.g.: 25 minutes +m 32 minutes. o    Second can be added to seconds; : 33 seconds + 21 seconds + If two different units of time are given then one will be converted into the other before adding, For example; o    6 hours + 72 minutes o    6 x 60 = 360 minutes o    360 minutes + 72 minutes = 432 minutes o    Again convert it in hours and minutes by divide with 60 x 432 ÷ 60 = hours 20 minutes. For Subtraction of time: The same traditional method of carrying will be used, but carrying will be done from hours or minutes as 60. For example; (30 + 60 = 90) carry 1 hour i.e. 60 minutes 4 hours

LESSON PLANNING OF TIME Subject Mathematics Grade 5 th Students` Learning Outcomes Convert hours minutes, minutes to seconds and vice versa. Information for Teachers 1 hr = 60 minutes 1 minute = 60 seconds GSM = Greater to Smaller Multiplication SGD = Smaller to Greater Division Key terms : minute hand, hour hand During this lesson teacher will consult the textbook at all steps where and when necessary. Material / Resources Writing board, chalk / marker, duster, wall clock or few wrist watches, so that students can observe that 60 ticks to make one minute, textbook Introduction Brain storms the students on the following question; How many times during the day, you use the word ‘time’?   LESSON PLANNING OF DISTANCE Subject Mathematics Grade 5 th Students` Learning Outcomes Convert kilometers to meters. Convert meters to centimetres. Convert centimetres to millimetres and vice versa. Information for Teachers No matter values are in fractions or decimals, keep two rules;  To convert meters in kilometers use smaller to Greater Division (SGD) i.e. To convert 36 meters in kilometers;  To convert meters in centimetres use Greater to Smaller Multiplication (GSM)  During this lesson, for all steps, the teacher should consult the textbook according to the requirement Material / Resources Writing board, chalk / marker, duster, textbook, measuring tape, small wooden scale Introduction Ask questions to enhance application skills and get meaningful sentence. o    How do we know that how far is our school from our home? o    How do we measure? o    Which are the different units of measurement given on your scale?(cm, mm, inches) Make two mar
