            Demonstrate the plant



            Differentiate between parts of the plant.



            Define the roots, Flower, Stem, Leaves, Fruit and seeds.



        INFORMATION FOR TEACHER.


            Teacher knows that


            parts of plants: A plant has roots, stem, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.



systems of parts of the plant.:  These parts of the plants form two systems which work together. These systems are root systems and shoot systems.


           

 Root systems: Root system consists of roots and its branches.

Shoot systems.: Shoot systems consist of stem and its branches, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.

         

  Functions of roots.: 1. Root fixes the plant firmly in the soil.

2. Roots absorb water and dissolved salts from soil.



 Importance of roots in our daily life.

 We use many roots as food for example radish, carrot, turnip etc.



Types of stem

 (1). Woody stem (2) soft stem (3) weak stem (4) underground stem.



Functions of stem.:(1) stem provides support to the plant.

(2) A stem conducts water and minerals from roots to leaves.

(3) Some stems for example sugar-can, potato and ginger store food in them.



☼ Importance of stem in daily life. : We use wood as fuel. Woody stems are excellent for making furniture, doors, windows and many useful things.



Simple and compound leaves.

Simple leaves. Leaf blade of many plants in one piece, such leaves are called simple leaves as people, mango, and banyan’s leaves.

Compound leaves. Leaves of rose, keekar and amaltas have their leaf blade cut into many small leaves. These leaves are called compound leaves.



Functions of leaves.: Leaves are mostly green in colour. They contain chlorophyll in them. With the help of chlorophyll, leaves capture light and use it to prepare food by combining water and carbon dioxide. Oxygen is released in this process.



Different parts of a flower.: The floral parts are arranged in four circles. These are

1.  Sepals        2.  Petals         3.  Stamens       4.  Carpals.

1. Sepals. Sepals form the outermost circle. They are green in colour.

2. Petals. The second circle is made up of colored leaves. They are called petals.

3. Stamens. Stamens are the male part of the plant.

4. Carpals.  The central part is made up of carpals. They are female parts of a flower.



        DURATION:

            14 Periods / 40 mints



        MATERIAL REQUIRED / A . V. AIDS.

            Charts, Plant, Root, Shoot, Leaves, flower, fruit etc.

           












        INTRODUCTION.



            Teacher shall ask the students:

            Dear Students have you visit the garden. What you saw there?

Then the students will tell that they saw there plants, Flower, Leaves, Fruits, and different kinds of plants.

Now teacher tell them that today we will read about the parts of the plants, Root, Stem, Flower, Leaves, Fruits and seeds.



        DEVELOPMENT:



ACTIVITY 1: Select a small plant in school garden and water it. When the soil becomes soft, pull out the plant very carefully so that the plant parts remain in contact. Now observe the parts of the plants, Root and Shoot system of the plants.

           

ACTIVITY 2: Different roots show the students.

            Mark the Tap root and Fibrous root. Tell the name of roots that we are eaten



ACTIVITY 3 : Cut a shoot from a flowering plant with white Flower. Place this shoot in a beaker of red coloured water. Observe the stem, Leaves and Flowers after a few mints and inquire from the students

Do you notice any change?

Are there any red lines in the stem, Leaves and Flowers?

What does this tell you?  



ACTIVITY 4 : Show the students different types of stem for example  Grass, Sheesham, keeker, Rose, Potato, and Ginger. After that explain the woody stem, weak stems. Soft stems and under ground stems.



ACTIVITY 5 : A few Leaves for example Mango, Keeker, Rose and peepal. After that explain the Simple and Compound Leaves.



ACTIVITY 6 : Collect different Flowers from Home or School and show them to the students their shape, colour, size and its smell. After that observed the Flower to the students and tolled them the parts of the Flower.

Sepals. Petals, Stamens and carpals.



        ASSESSMENT :

           

            Teacher asked the students:                      



            1. How many parts of the plants?

          2. What is root system?

          3. What is shoot system?

          4. What is the function of root?

          5. What is the importance of roots in our daily life?

          6. How many types of stem?

          7. What is the function of stem?

          8. What is the importance of Stem in our daily life?

          9. Describe the simple leaves?

          10. Describe the Compound leaves?

          11. What are the functions of Leaves?

          12. How many parts of a flower?

          13. Describe different parts of flower.

         

        HOME WORK / FOLLOW UP

            Ask students to write in 4 – 5 lines about the topic.
