Components of School Evacuation Plan



           1)   School Map:

·         For an effective School Evacuation Plan, it is very much imperative to have school map, its location and in case of any disaster its capacity to accommodate effected people. Evacuation Plan is highlighted on the map and pasted on a prominent place. It is also an integral part of an effective and helpful evacuation map to highlight clearly the alternate passages, safe shelters and their (shelters’) capacity to accommodate people/students in case of any disaster internal or external.

     2) Important Information Charts:

 

·         Different charts bearing different massages/ information are pasted at prominent places in schools.  For example:
      1)      Does and Don’ts charts.
2)   Important massages (regarding security issues)

      3) Early Warning System:

 

·           According to School safety Plan, an Early Warning System is established in every institution.   
·           A number of accidents / disasters can be avoided or their (accidents’) loss/ damage can be
·          minimize the help of “Early Warning System” i.e. different firing, cross firing, land sliding and flood etc.
·           In Early Warning System different types of warning / alarms and announcement s are pre-
 decided. For example: 
·         In case of cross firing a specific warning /alarms will be used and in case of fire eruption, the other warning /alarm will be.
·         This difference in warning /alarm must be known to students as well as other school staff  and they must practice / exercise it time and again.
·         A public Address System is very helpful and beneficial for oral warning.
·         The chart of Early Warning System according to the following format  should be pasted at a prominent place.

               4) Safe Shelters


·         Safe shelter must be highlighted by keeping in view the type / form of disaster.
·         Charts indicating safe shelters should be prepared for pasting according to following format.

             5) Alternate Safe Passages 

 

                Different alternate safe passages are indicated in case of different types / forms of disaster.
·         It must be ensured that decorative things must not impede or make unsafe the evacuation passages.

             6) Evacuation of Special Children/Blind children

 

              *     Announce the type / form of emergency
              *     Go ahead for leading them.
              *     Tell them where we are going and what hurdles are to cross.
              *      After reaching at a safe place, ask them whether they need more help.
              *      Depute some agile and active student / teacher to guide these children to safe place.

           7) The Evacuation of Deaf Students

              *      Switch off and on lights
              *       Direct them with gestures
              *       Write the directions of evacuation on the board
              *       Depute some agile and active student/teacher to guide these special children to a safe.

           8)  Evacuation of Student on Wheelchairs and Walkers

              *      Evacuate these students like injured ones
              *      Stay with them possible
              *      Help in their evacuation to safe places
              *      Depute some agile and active student / teacher to guide these special children to a safe
