Quality Education: Initiatives and Expectations
Introduction:

This unit briefly discuss some new initiatives
taken at the primary level and focuses on the role of the head teacher in
successfully implementing and sustaining them.
Outcomes:
The head teacher will be able to:

Understand the new
initiatives taken by the School Education Department / govt. of Punjab for the
improvement of overall quality of education to cope with the international
Educational Standards.

In this unit each initiative
is briefly highlighted to indicate areas where head teachers need to put in
maximum effort. These new initiatives are interlinked and are crucial to bring
about long term benefits to the students and ultimately to the nation.

1. Early Childhood Education (ECE)
On 9th September 2009, the
Govt. of Pakistan approved the new National Education Policy. This is the first
time in the history of Pakistan that an education policy contained a full
section on Early School Education. This is encouraging. The new National
Education Policy 2009 has recognized the importance of ECE and taken a number
of policy action, including additional budget, teachers and assistants for ECE.
Policy also include interactive environment, including play, rather than focus on regimes that
require rote-learning.
Early Child Education (ECE)
relates to early learning of young children and consists of activities or
experiences that are meant to effect developmental changes in children before
they enter into formal class, grade or primary school.
Significance of ECE:
Good quality Early Childhood Education
has important long term benefits for a child. The

acquisition of concepts, skills and attitudes because they lay the
Foundation for lifelong learning.
The National Curriculum for ECE
aims to:

Provide for the holistic
development of the child, which includes physical, social, emotional, cognitive
and moral development.

understanding of Islam and Islamic society.
