Lesson Plan of Introduction of Human Body (Heart)
General Science Grade IV
Students’ Learning Outcomes
·
Identify major parts (Heart)
of human body.
·
State functions of major
parts (Heart) of the body.
Information for Teachers
·
Heart is a muscular organ
which pumps the blood in whole of the body.
It has four chambers. The upper two chambers receive blood from the body
through blood vessels while the lower two chamber s push blood to other body
blood vessels.

Worm up Activity
·
Ask the students if they can
name different parts of their bicycle. Write students’ responses on the board.
·
Tell the students that as the
bicycle has many parts, our body is also made of many parts. These parts are
called organs.
·
Ask the students to name all
the organs of body which they can see and touch. Write students’ responses on
board.
·
Make them focus that these
are the external parts of their body e.g. ear, eye, teeth, and skin.
·
Explain that like these
external parts there are some parts inside the body which also perform variety
of functions.
Development
Activity:
·
Introduce the need of
transport of materials to and from different parts of body. This learning can
be achieved by making questions like the following.
----When we eat food, it goes to our
stomach and intestine. All parts of our body need food.
How do they get food from intestine?
-----When we inhale air, our lungs get
oxygen from air. How all parts of our body get oxygen
from lungs
----All parts of our body make carbon
dioxide but only lungs are able to remove it from body.
How the carbon dioxide from all parts
reach to the lungs?
·
Inform the students that food
from intestine, oxygen from lungs and carbon dioxide from whole of the body
enter in the blood
·
Make line- drawings to
demonstrate the role of heart and blood vessels in pumping and carrying blood
to different parts of the body.
·
Ask the students to close
their fist. Tell them that the size of their heart is of their closed fist.
Sum up / Conclusion
·
The upper two chambers of the
heart receive blood from blood vessels while the lower two chambers push blood
to other blood vessels.
Assessment
·
Draw following table on the
board.
·
Instruct the students how to
fill the table.
·
They will explain their
understanding by completing the table
