When we intermingle with
others, we unceasingly give and receive wordless gestures are called non-verbal
cues.
·
Nonverbal communication among
people is communication concluded sending and receiving wordless intimations.
·
Nonverbal communication consists of the aware
and unconscious methods of programming and interpreting. Programming is the act
of creating the information such as facial expressions, gestures, and postures.
Interpreting is the clarification of information from received feelings from preceding
skills.

proximity, gestures, facial expressions, pauses-silence, dress, posture, smell,
sounds
o Non-verbal communication is a very important
aspect of spoken communication that doesn’t involve words.
o This adds emphasis or shades of meaning to what
people say. It involves body language, gesture, facial expressions, tone and
pitch of voice etc.
Material / Resources

surroundings, board, textbook
Worm up activity
·
(No Talk Strategy)
o Instructions: when your students arrive for
class, greet them with silence.
o As students begin to seat themselves, tell them
that they all must remain silent until you tell them otherwise.
o Use only non-verbal cues to get them to engage
in the normal classroom routines. For example: once everyone is in the
chairs/desks, use gestures to get them to open their books.
o You can put your hands together to form a
book-like shape or mimic pretending to read a page.
o Students will eventually pick up on your
gestures and cues to perform the tasks.
o Then they respond to you in kind with their own
gestures.
o Continue for as long as you like and then
discuss with the students how sometimes non-verbal cues can be just as
effective as verbal communication.
·
Highlight the importance of
tone and non-verbal communication system in our life. Explain its components.
Relate this with all the discussion they just had.
