Students’ Learning Outcomes

·         Illustrate use of prepositions of position, time, movement and direction.

Information for Teacher

·         Prepositions are words or group of words that illustrate the relationship among noun or pronoun and new word in the sentence.
·         Preposition tells the position of a noun.
For example: (on, in, out, behind, under)
1.       The book is on the table.
2.       The book is in the bag.
3.       The book is behind the bag.
4.       The book is under the table.
·         Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words within a sentence.

Worm up activity

·         Recall the concepts of prepositions through brainstorming.
·         Place the duster or a pencil somewhere in the classroom where every student can see it.
·         Place the duster on the table and ask the following question and write their responses on the board.
Q: Where is the duster?
        (Expected response: The duster is on the table)
·         Place the duster under the table and ask the following question.
Q: Where is the duster?
       (The duster is the under the table)
·         Place the duster beside the table and ask the following question.
Q: Where is the duster?
 (The duster is besides the table)

Activity 1

·         Make the following charts on the board.
·         Ask the students at random to provide examples for each preposition. They must then use any two prepositions in their sentences. (The answers are highlighted in the column of examples)

·         Ask students to write a short paragraph about getting on a bus, train or airplane.
·         First you go to the ticket counter, and then your luggage is checked. Finally, you get into the waiting lounge before getting into the plane.

·         Ask students to write a short paragraph about a bee flying in the room and how it bothered them.
(It came in from the window, flew to my plate, then it flew to my little sister who ran out of the room screaming!)

Sum up / Conclusion

·         Conclude the lesson by again repeating the concept of preposition for the class.

Assessment

·         Assess students’ performance on the last three activities:
·         Ask to the students the following question with reference to the chart which was displayed at wall.
Q1: Where is the ball in first box?
       (Expected response: The ball is in the box)
 Q2: Where is the ball in the second box?
      (Expected response: The ball is on the box)
 Q3: Where is the in the box?
       (Expected response: The ball is under the box)
 Q4: Where is the ball in the box?
       (Expected response: The ball is next to the box)

Follow up

·         Ask the students to find out at least five prepositions from any selected paragraph from their textbook and use them in their own sentences.
