Lesson Planning of Simple Future Tense

  • Illustrate the use of tenses, (simple present and continuous, simple past and continuous and simple future tense) previously learnt in their speech and writing.

Information for Teachers

  • In this plan, only simple future tense is discussed. Other parts of this SLO are covered for formation of the simple future tense:

  • This tense tells the intentions of people what they are planning for the future. We use the future tense when we want to talk about future actions and happenings.
  • To clarify the concept of the future tense, add the future time in the sentence. For example: tomorrow, next day, next week, next month, next year, etc.

Material/ Resources

Writing board, chalk/marker, duster, textbook

Introduction

  • Write the heading “Simple Future Tense” on the writing board and ask the students such questions: as;

  1. What is future tense?
  2. Which helping verbs are used in it?
  3. Which form of verb is used in simple future tense?

  • Write responses of the students on the writing board.
  • Give students more examples of simple future tense.

  1. I shall call her tomorrow.
  2. We shall meet next week.
  3. They will go to the market.
  4. He will do this work.

  • Tell the students the use of shall and will

Will

  • Tell the students the use of negative and interrogative form in simple future by giving examples as;

  1. ‘I shall not waste my time’
  2. ‘Ahmad will fly to Karachi’

  • The formation of negative sentences in the Simple Future Tense is; as;

Subject + will/shall + not +1st form of verb + Object

 

  • Example: as;

  1. Ahmad will not fly to Karachi.

  • The formation of the interrogative sentences in the Simple Future Tense is: as;

Will/Shall + Subject + 1st form of the verb + object?

  • Example: as;

  1. Will Ahmad fly to Karachi?

Development

Activity 1

  • Divide the class into pairs.
  • Each pair will write a paragraph with the following paragraph starter: as;

  1. I will go to Karachi tomorrow………

  • Tell students to use the following phrases: as;

Pack my bag, iron my cloth, take shower, get ready, buy a ticket, attend a wedding in Karachi, take a ride to the railway station.

  • After students have finished their work, ask them to check their work by following the rules of simple future tense.
  • Take the oral feedback of paragraphs from students and appreciate their effort.

Activity 2

  • Ask students to write a paragraph (5-6 lines) about what they will become when they grow up.
  • Ask the students: as;

  1. What do you want to become in future?
  2. What will you study?
  3. What kind of books will you read?
  4. What kind of television programme you watch?

Sum up/ Conclusion

  • Repeat the usage of will and shall future tense.

Assessment

  • Change the following sentences into negative and interrogative sentences: as;

  1. I shall go to school tomorrow.
  2. Ahmad will eat the cake.
  3. They will come to the party.
  4. You will cook the dinner.
  5. We shall meet at the p[ark.

  • Involve the students in solving the exercises given at the end of unit/chapter of the textbook.

Follow up

  • Ask the students to write ten sentences about what they will do on next Sunday.
