Lesson Planning of Simple Past Tense

Subject English

Grade V

Students` Learning Out comes

  • Illustrate the use of tenses, (simple present and continuous, simple past and continuous and simple future tense) previously learnt in their speech and writing.

Information for Teachers

  • In this plan, only simple future tense is discussed. Other parts of this SLO are covered for formation of the simple future tense:

Subject +  2nd form of the verb +object

I, We

He, She, It, they, You+ SS, PS

Went to go school yesterday.

  • This tense tells the intentions of people what they did in the past. We use the past tense when we want to talk about past actions and happenings.
  • To clarify the concept of the past tense, add the previous time in the sentence. For example:
  • ‘Yesterday, bygone, last day, foretime, not long ago, recently, previous day, previous week, previous month, previous year, ago, since, before, later, gone, back and earlier.
  • The simple Past Tense of regular verbs is formed by the ending –d or –ed, as; I went to school yesterday. The speaker completed his/her action of going to school, so here, you use the verb ‘go’ in the simple past tense.
