Students` Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize the action takes place in time (Present, Past, or Future) tense indicates time of action.

Information for Teachers

  • A word that describes an action is called verb for example; talk, walk, drink, go, show
  •  Tell the students that the tense indicate time of action (Present, past or future)
  • Verb tenses have basically three forms (Present, past or future)
  • The following timeline shows when the action is done.

  • While teaching the lesson, the teacher should also consult textbook at all steps where and when applicable.

Material / Resources

Writing board, chalk / marker, duster, 2 play cards showing actions for the students

Introduction

  • Ask question about the pictures

Development

Approach; Whole Class Activity and individual work

Activity 1

  • Ask the students the following questions;

  1. What are you doing now?
  2. What did you do last evening?
  3. What will you do tomorrow?

  • See the difference in their sentence structure before you start defining the tense.
  • Draw the timeline to show the tenses to the students which is being given under the heading information for the teacher to clarify their concepts of tenses.
  • Create similar examples with the help of the students.

Activity 2

  • Ask two or three students what they did yesterday? (Write their responses on the board)
  • Help them where they feel difficulty (tell them to use past form of verb)
  • Ask some students what they will do tomorrow? (Tell them to use will or shall)
  • Teacher should ask them what they are doing at present.
  • Ask their habits and hobbies.






Conclusion / Sum up

  • Complete the following table by asking student`s responses.

  • Then copy the table from the board.

Assessment

  • Write five sentences about how they spent their last birthday?

  • Teacher is also required to involve the student in solving the problems given in the exercise at end of unit / chapter.

Follow up

  • Write five sentences about their daily routine to assess their understanding of using verbs in present tense.
