Students` Learning Outcomes

  • Select and use some strategies to organize ideas for writing such as outlines, mind maps etc.

Information for Teachers

  • Brainstorming means thinking of everything you can about a topic.
  • In the ‘ worksheet’ below, write down all the ideas you can think of for the topic “All about me”.

  • Remember there are no right or wrong words, or good or bad ideas. Just write whatever comes to the students` minds.
  • The pictures used above to gather ideas for writing is a mind map.
  • While teaching the lesson, the teacher should also consult the textbook at all steps where and when needed.

Material / Resources

Writing board, chalk/marker, duster, worksheet, textbook

Introduction

  • Ask the students randomly:

            1. What are their favourite subjects?

2. What are their favourite stories?

  • Which words best describes them e.g. helping, honest, etc.

Development

Activity 1

  • Draw the dolls worksheet on the writing board and ask the students to draw it on their notebooks.
  • Ask the students what do they think they are going to do that day?
  • Once they are done with drawing, ask them to work in pairs and write the words and phrases according to the headings given in the worksheet.
  • Monitor and help the students while working.

Activity 2

  • Ask the students to make sentences using the above brainstormed words.

  • Monitor and help the students while working.

Sum up / Conclusion

            • Ask the students to tell:
            • What is brainstorming?

Assessment

  • Ask the students to exchange their work with their peers for checking.

  • Tell the students to check each other`s work for correct spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation.
  • Ask the students to rewrite their work in the light of the feedback given by their peers.
  • Teacher is also required to involve the student I solving the problems given in the exercise at the end of unit / chapter.

Follow up

  • Tell the students to write an essay on “All about me”, using the above brainstormed ideas.
