LESSON PLANNING OF TIME CONVENTION OF YEARS TO MONTHS, MONTHS TO WEEKS, WEEKS TO DAYS AND VICE VERSA

Students` Learning Outcomes

  • Convert years to month, months to weeks, weeks to days and vice versa.

Information for Teachers

1 years = 12 months

1 month = 30 days

7 days = 1 week

1 months = 4 weeks

In a Solar calendar which we normally use:

1 normal years = 365 days

[February is of 8 days]

1 year = 52 weeks

Every fourth year is a leap year

1 leap year = 365 days

[February is of 29 days]

7 months = 31 days.

[January, March, may, July, august m October, December]

4 months = 31 days

[April, June, September, November]

In a Lunar Calendar:

1 year = 365 days.

Each month = 29/30 days on the appearance of the moon.

  • Against two methods of GSM and SGD will be used.
  • Teacher will consult textbook at all steps where and when required.

Introduction

  • Time is something that most of us taken for granted. For example;

o   Have you ever thought about why, there are 12 months in the year?

o    Why are there 30 days in September?

o   What are the time zones and what`s with daylight-saving time?

o   Why are there 86,400 seconds in a day?

  • Ask:

o   What is the day after Monday?

o   What is the day before Tuesday?

o   What is the day between Wednesday and Friday?

o   What day is 2 days after Monday?

o   How many days are there from Sunday to Wednesday?

  • Review:

a.       What is the first month of the year?

b.      What is the Last month of the year?

c.       Which is the Month when classes begin?

d.      What is the Month when we celebrate Quid-e-Azam`s birthday?

e.       Which is the Month when we celebrate New Year?

f.       Which is the Month when we celebrate Independence Day?

Development

Activity 1

Group the students

  • Give each group a calendar
  • Write the following directions for them on the board.

a.       Cut the months of the year from the calendar, and then staple them.

b.      Cut the days of the week. One set only and then staples them.

c.       Cut the last date of each month. Add them and find out the final answer.

d.      Divide the total number of days in a year by 12.

e.       Cut the last date of each month. Add them and find out the final answer.

f.       Divide the total number of days in a year by 12.

g.      Divide the total number of days in a year by 7.

Activity 2

  • Ask the following questions:

1.       Take out the months cards. How many months did you cut? [12 month]

2.       12 months stands for what? [year]

3.       How many days are there in one week? [7 days = 1 week]

4.       How many days are there in one year? [365 days = 1 year]

5.       How many weeks are there in one month? [ 4 weeks]

6.       What is the average number of days in one month? [30 days]

7.       How many weeks are there in one year? [ 52 weeks]

8.       How many months are there in 2 years? [ 24 months]

9.       How did you get 24 months? 

10.   If there are 36 months. How many years will be? [ 3 years]  

11.   There are 21 days. How many weeks will it be? [3 weeks]  

12.   How did you get 3 weeks? 

13.   How many days are there in 2 years? [730]

14.   How did you get 730? 

Presentation: [To be played by the whole class]

  • We all are going to do a role play today.
  • Ask the whole class to stand up.
  • Split the whole class into groups.
  • Tell each one of you is ‘A MONTH’
  • Say: please come one year from the left side, and, sit down. [see whether the group coordinates and make a group of 12 students]

Repeat: 1 year = 12 months

  • Say: two years from the right side, and, sit down. [see whether the group coordinates and make a group of 24 students]
  • Ask them all to stand once again and repeat the activity with 3 years [36 students], four years [48 students] etc.
  • Conclude the discussion on 1 year = 12 month.

Activity 4

  • Discuss with the whole class about how we figured out number of students to present years or months, etc.  

Activity 5 

Whole class:

  • Answer the following:

1.       Which is longer, 365 days or a year?

2.       Which is shorter 150 days or 6 months?

3.       Are 52 weeks equal to 2 years?

4.       Which is longer 4 weeks or 40 days?

5.       Two leap year is = _________ days.

6.       Which is longer 8 months or 200 days?

  • Ask the reason for each answer

Sum up / Conclusion 

Assessment 

  • Teacher should involve the students in solving the exercise question given in the end of the lesson of the textbook.

Follow up

  • Solve questions from the textbook
