Classify adjectives of quantity,
quality, size, shape, color and origin.
Information for teachers
·
Adjectives are describing
words.
·
They tell us more about
nouns. For example: Ali (noun) is brave (adjective) boy. In this example
‘brave’ is telling us more about ‘Ali’.

Adjective of quality:
v Express the qualities of somewhat or somebody.
v Such as great, good, bad, wise, poor, nice,
happy, pretty, angry, blue etc.
v Example:
o They give me a great idea.
o Mr. Salaam is a good person.
o He is a good guy.
v Adjective of quality response the question:
what kind?

Adjective of number:
v Express the number or order of somewhat or somebody.
Such as one, two, three, first, second, third……….,
v Example:
o She can eat ten eggs at a time.
o He is the first boy in the class.
o The
house holder does not lease the room to the single person.
v Adjective of number is two kinds Definite and
Indefinite.
o Definite number adjectives are of three types.
o Such as
o Prime (one, two,),
o Ordinal (first, second,),
o Multiplicative (Single, double,)

Demonstrative Adjective:
v State the nouns or pronouns. in place of this,
that, those, these etc.
v Example:
o This boy is good.
o That is her room.
o These are the book to follow.

Distributive Adjective:
v Express the distributive state of nouns. Such
as every, each, neither, either, both etc.
v Example:
o Every movie in the series is popular.
o Both the boys are appreciated by them.
o Each person will get the reward.
5.
Possessive Adjective:
v Shows the possession or belonging in the sentence.
Such as his, her, him, my, our, your, their etc.
v Example:
o This is her cell phone.
o I have seen their house.
o Our house is tow stored house.
6. Inquiring Adjective:
v Interrogative Adjective changes nouns in
interrogative sentence. Such as which, what, whose etc.
v Example:
o What type of man he is?
o Whose phone is this?
o Which program are you attending?
Material Resources
Chalk/marker, duster, pencils, flowers, ball,
cap, bag, textbook
Worm up activity
·
Show the students a ball and
ask them to describe it by using different adjectives.
·
Record the responses of the
students on the board.
·
Ask them to tell about its
color, shape, size, quality, and it is made in which country such as China,
Pakistan etc.
·
·
When they have described the
ball show them, a bag (your bag, any students’ bag) and ask them to describe
it:

Blue/ skin/ brown/
attractive/ black/ soft/ hard/ nice/ made of fine material/ China/ Pakistan
etc.
·
·
Then ask them to describe a
flower.
·
Same activity can be repeated
with other objects like comb, table, chair, flower, duster or anything easily
available in the classroom.

Activity 1
·
Tell the students that
adjectives are describing words which describe a noun or a pronoun.
·
Draw the following table on
the board and explain different kinds of adjectives.

activity and tell them how they have already told about these kinds of
adjectives.
Activity 2
·
Ask the students to copy the
following table in their notebooks. They must work in pairs and think about any
three things and fill the table with different kinds of adjectives.

Activity 3
·
Ask the students to prepare a
4—6 line conversation between a father and a child.
·
The father class from the
market to ask what kind of a toy the child wants, and the child gives details.
o Father: Amanda, I am at the toy store. I have
forgotten what kind of a doll you wanted.
o Amanda: father, I want a big doll.
o Father: I can see one wearing a pink dress, is
that okay?
o Amanda: no, get me one wearing purple dress.
o Father: the purple one is made of cloth, not
plastic.
o Amanda: yes, that’s fine. I like such dolls
because they are soft.
o Father: okay, I am getting it for you now.
o Amanda: thank you, father.

Briefly discuss the different
types of adjectives with examples.

Underline the adjectives in
the following sentences and then use these adjective in sentences of your own.

It is an empty bottle.

I like fresh fruit/juice.

Follow up
·
Ask them to write five
adjectives about any of their toys like doll, car, bat, etc. or any animal they
like.
·
Ask the students to add
adjectives in the following sentences to make them more interesting.
o I can’t drive your _________car.
o She went to the store to buy ___________bread.
o I saw a ____________bird.
o We ate ___________________pizza.
o I have a ______________________________bag.
